This month we welcome Carl Barnes to the Titan ICT team as Principal Enterprise Architect. For those in the Enterprise Architecture and ICT Governance space in particular, you may recognise Carl who is a twenty-five year ‘veteran’ in the ICT industry. Carl’s expertise lies within corporate governance, strategy and planning, and enterprise architecture within large private and government organisations.

Carl will strengthen Titan ICT’s growing strategic consulting capability which is focussed on working with our clients to overcome the challenges of aligning ICT initiatives with business strategies and objectives to enable organisational growth and operational efficiency.

Mike Stegena, Director, Titan ICT said “Carl’s extensive knowledge of Enterprise Architecture, and his focus on business value creation and achieving business outcomes will complement the company’s specialist IT and communications consulting capability”.

Carl is currently developing a Case Study on the practical application of Cobit 5 which will explore the effective corporate (ICT) governance structures that encourage enterprises to create value through entrepreneurialism, innovation, development and exploration, and to provide accountability and control systems commensurate with the risk involved. This will be based on Carl’s recent experiences in large WA-based enterprises where significant organisational value was derived through activities such as identification of key enablers.

COBIT5-Laminate_Page_5COBIT 5 provides a comprehensive framework that assists enterprises in achieving their objectives for the governance and management of enterprise ICT. Simply stated, it helps enterprises create optimal value from ICT by maintaining a balance between realising benefits and optimising risk levels and resource use. COBIT 5 enables ICT to be governed and managed in a holistic manner for the entire enterprise, taking in the full end-to-end business and ICT functional areas of responsibility, considering the ICT-related interests of internal and external stakeholders.

COBIT 5 is generic and useful for enterprises of all sizes, whether commercial, not-for-profit or in the public sector where recognising the distinction and interaction between key areas of Governance and Management and establishing clear accountabilities for each, is fundamental to achieving effective and efficient organisations.
